Kochalka Quality HOT SAUCE

It´ve been a long time, ahn kids? But I was in vacations... did everybody enjoy the new year´s eve? I hope so! The first song of the year was a beat happening song, following with 'groove is in the heart' cuz a little bit of soul is necessary to life, don´t ya think?

Anyways, there´s a tip to spicy up your life this summer... I´m talking about James Kochalka´s hot sauce. I talked about his comics already and now he has news for ya... It's the most arbitrary & wonderful new Kochalka product! Chicago Comics and I have teamed up to bring you this new line of Kochalka Quality hot sauce!!!! 4 flavors, 4 label designs. But don't just place your bottles of Kochalka hot sauce in special glass cases, preserving them as prized collector's items... it's actually pretty good sauce! I mean, it tastes good! Plus, it brings a little art into your daily life, transforming it from a humdrum "grind" to an exciting "zing"! So don't be afraid to use it!!!! I wouldnt wait if I was you! the labels are great!!!!!!!!!! :)

Dangerfive records

So, there I was, searching for “lo-fi pictures” at google.com, when I found this pretty-fucking-cool-extra-lo-fi label! I just forgot the pictures and got sooo deep in their bands and music. Surealy ,Dangerfive records is such the perfect choise to people who, just like me, are tired of all those old guitar bands... Dangerfive´s bands have a special ingredient I guess.
Although I didnt hear all the bands yet, I had the chance to start with James Kolchaka Superstars. All I know is that the responsable for it is James , who has pretty cool songs AND pretty clever and cute comics, a truly genious I´d say. He records his songs on a four track and he even uses some video-game´s theme songs as a background to his clever lyrics and unforgetable voice! Really, I´m not being a kiss ass. I just loved what I heard and I guess you should go there right now to confirm all I´m saying. Hey kids, I shouldn´t let this blog without a link to Jame´s songs. And definately the name “hot chocolate superstars” reminded me of beat happening and a brainiac´s album. He´s the man if you know what I mean! :) Go for it!

Luisa mandou um beijo, em São Paulo

I had some plans for that afternoon. The weather wasn´t helping anyway, but I knew I wouldn´t be regret if I´d leave the house to go out with Henrique. We tried the movies, but the film I wanted to see wasn´t available. So we took this long walk until the Centro Cultural de São Paulo, to see my earlier xmas present. We had luck we got the place when this storm started and took ages to stop. Henrique and I just stayed at the café drinking some hot chocolate and talking about stuff.
There was some magic in the air. I really mean this, cuz you know, everything was happening fits exactly in the perfect picture I have about the band. The show started at 7 pm and even after long 4 hours waiting for the show, I still had the feeling that would be THE show.
Luisa Mandou Um Beijo just got the stage and slowly filled the place with their lovely melodies. The band came from Rio de Janeiro to play a couple of shows and we couldn´t even realise they were kinda tired after the long trip and the soundchecking: they were singing and dancing and playing like if it was the most special thing they´ve been doing for ages! And probably it was, at least for the audience. People were sitting, but even that, they were still shaking their bodies and trying to sing along some of the chorus. I was one of them of course hehe. they played all their songs. I mean, not all of them, since I missed “Rua Santo Inacio” (which is in their last ep) though they had new versions to their old songs. I couldn´t stop smiling while they played the best sequence of the whole show: “Bauhaus today” and “amarelinha” made everybody in the house get this smart smile!
They played a cover of Mutantes. I never thought I would see someone playing such a cool version of any mutantes song. Well, definately, luisa is the early xmas present I needed! If you want to hear some guitar-rock-bossa-nova and female vocals, that´s the band, my friend! You can hear luisa here

Star Guitar Festival

Two days. Saturday and Sunday, though I just went there on Saturday. Humm.. what can I say? I just went there cause I wasn´t paying. Really. I knew all the bands already. I think this was the bad thing... they put 7 bands together and these 7 bands are playing every weekend in the bars and clubs around São Paulo. Just like a friend said to me “well, it´s an overdose of our friend´s bands” hehehe.

Otherwise, they were trying their best (the bands). So the festival started with Evil Sounds Drinks, one of the few eletronic bands from here which tries to play live in shows. At least I´ve never heard any other doing this before. Of course we have some eletronic bands here, but it´s not that easy to go to a “rock place” and see them playing. Anyway, it was this cover of Atari Teenage Riot the most part. Even the little girl screaming, well, there she was. I got at the festival when the band was playing the third last song (which was not that good, since each song had more than 5 minutes each hehe). So I just took a sit upstairs with a few friends and there I spent all the journey. Bionica played and ohhh no, they just sucked at all! Really! Girls pretending they were bad, I hate this kinda behaviour. So, thankfully we had Transistors playing their songs in english, portuguese and even french. Girls singing, a boy singing, a reeeeeeeally nice guitar-player (Mariana really rocks!) and this excellent drummer! Well, it´s obvious they have lots and lots of 60´s , mod´s influences and the boy-singer has lots of Jarvis Cocker´s influences in his performance. But what really matters is that they make you shake your body, baby! A good band that I hope to see more times! After all the dance, we had The Concept celebrating their 9 years together!!!!!! Wow! I know the guys and of course, I just spent the show thinking how they developed all these years. Influences of Teenage Fanclub and My Bloody Valentine... a lot of noise. The most special “touch”? the vocals! Yeah, the singer´s vocal is soooooo sweet! It makes the band gets less noisy without becoming pop! :) We had this little pause again until Pullovers gets the stage.Hum, what can I say? They really used to be good. Nowdays, they´re just like the other bands that one day were power-pop bands and now they try to be punkers. Wthout success, of course. I guess that pop and sweet melodies are always in someone´s heart. The band is in their second album already. I didn´t hear that yet and probably I won´t. I prefer to keep this picture of them playing the old sweet songs. Ok, just to you stop thinking I´m such a bad girl, well, here we go to the best shot: Hurtmold was just the sensation of the whole festival. I spent all this time hearing “oh, they´re such a smart band, sooo tallented and good musicians”, but I don´t know why, I always kept this feeling about them, telling me they were one more punk-experimental band. I was completely wrong. They´re experimental, yeah. But they´re not a punk band or any other thing. I guess that If Mogwai was brazilian, well, they would be playing in Hurtmold. Though, I have to tell the truth: hurtmold´s gig really beats a mogwai´s gig. They ´re sooo concentrated on the stage, they have control on their feelings and the instruments. Perfect. Guys, just try to search for this band in the internet. Be nice to your ears. You won´t be regret. Ohhhh yeah, in a normal context this would be the last band... but it wasn´t. After this gorgeous show of Hurtmold, we had Pelvs playing. A band from Rio de Janeiro (I guess the only one which wasn´t from São Paulo anyway). Hum. It was the first show of them that I could see. I mean, I had seen them before playing with Luna last year, but even the guys of the band said the show was awfull. This time, with the good equipament and everything, they really played those beautiful songs. They only played hits.ohhh it was the perfect show for lovers. You know, they started the first riff and the drums and they you got yourself thinking “ohhhh Someone´s missing by my side”. Pelvs has songs that make you come back home thinking bout your past, or even making you come back home singing their melodies until you get really home, to take the phone and call to someone you miss. Yeah, this was pelvs with their lots of dinosaur jr´s influences, but with something really special I could never tell you what. What are you waiting for to search for these bands???

I don´t have links yet, but soon I´ll be posting some links to these bands and others, right? Go to bed, kids. You´re lo-fi but you´re not that powerfull hehe. See ya! Soundtrack: Bettie Serveert – “lamprey”

the very first time...

Well, I did it again. Another blog, another way I found to keep in touch with all my dearest friends around the world! :)
Hey, the first message is a short one, just to tell you guys, I can´t stop listening to Beat Happening. It was in time to get a new band and pretend we could be as no sense and crazy as Calvin Johnson... hehehe
